Information
Your First Visit
If you’re new to acupuncture, it’s normal to feel curious—or even a little nervous. Your first visit is designed to be calm, informative, and tailored to you. Here’s a step-by-step look at what typically happens.
In-Depth Intake & Conversation
We will begin with gathering your detailed health history. Expect questions about:
-
Your main concerns and goals
-
Sleep, digestion, stress, and energy levels
-
Medical history, medications, and lifestyle
This holistic conversation helps guide an individualized treatment plan.
Traditional Assessment
You may notice some unique evaluation methods, such as:
-
Checking your pulse at both wrists
-
Observing your tongue
-
Gentle palpation of certain areas
These tools offer insight into overall balance and patterns in the body.
Getting Comfortable
You’ll lie on a treatment table, usually fully clothed. Depending on the points used, sleeves or pant legs may be rolled up. Blankets or bolsters are often provided so you can relax comfortably.
Needle Placement
Very thin, sterile, single-use needles are gently inserted at specific points. Most people feel little to no pain—sensations are often described as a mild pressure, warmth, tingling, or heaviness that quickly fades.
Rest & Relaxation
Once the needles are in place, you’ll rest quietly for about 20–30 minutes. Many people feel deeply relaxed and some even fall asleep.
After the Treatment
After the needles are removed, your practitioner may:
-
Offer lifestyle or self-care suggestions
-
Recommend follow-up visits
-
Discuss what you might feel afterward
It’s common to feel relaxed, clear-headed, or gently energized. Mild soreness or fatigue can occur and usually resolves quickly.

Your first acupuncture visit is meant to be a supportive, restorative experience. Each session builds on the last, helping your body move toward better balance and function naturally.
